Although Catia Boulevard is a strictly pedestrian public space traced over Line 1 of the Caracas Metro, from Plaza Sucre at the north end with Avenida Sucre, to Plaza Pérez Bonalde, 870 m south, in the middle of Nueva Caracas neighborhood (1929), it occupies what was the former Avenida España, a tree lined avenue, with several sculptures (Levitation, by Rafael Barrios, enameled metal, 1983), bordered by shops, with the Main Market building’s urban profile standing out and with the Catia Cinema on one of its corners, both of heritage quality. Over time, and beginning with the subway’s development, elevated housing was constructed near the stations and trees were replanted across the entire width (15m). Since 2009, the boulevard was extended from the sixth avenue of El Atlántico to the main avenue of La Silsa, in a mixed modality (with cars) and important efforts have been made to recover this boulevard space for children and the elderly population.
