To assert the symbolic distance between the urban landscape and the redefined and figurative landscape inside its limits, Helene de Garay assumes the idea of sheltered space as a sign of tropicality in her buildings. The filter, as a theme, takes on the function of demarcating a breach between two spaces of a different nature. On one side is the world of senses, external tangible nature, and the manifestation of light. On the other is the inner transcendent world, two things of the same reality, the profane and the sacred in a building. Inside, the building structures a tensional network of climate and light, due to its continuous visuals facing inward. Geometry enhances the effect of order, so certain elements with a support function also become tensional supporters of the space. Thus, a multiple space complex is formed, visually interconnected by the absence of shade and tensionally organized from the levels facing it. The curved membrane is an element that fills its inner climate with subtle expressions, allowing the light to go through selectively and with contrast. The light filtered by the powerful «shade mural» (undoubtedly one of the most subtle and beautiful expressions of contemporary Venezuelan architecture) densifies the courtyard with renewed temperature and silent plasticity, permeating its space with a sedated and quiet atmosphere that seems to be floating.
