La Previsora is an urban icon for Caracas, a contemporary symbol. The pyramidal tower exhibits a search for forms through a structure that privileges stability as a concept. Built by Consorcio Integral Fertec, the project was given to the office of Arquitectos BPK (Borges, Pimentel and Koifman), who with Pablo Lasala’s masterful design won first place in a competition held by the insurance company. The complex, formed by a 30-story tower and an adjacent body for mechanical parking, is located at the end of Sabana Grande’s Boulevard. Its shape is the result of the meeting of two inclined planes, horizontally joined by large beams or structural elements that form inner atriums every 5 floors. The floor plan shows two bodies connected by the central circulation core, whose effective area decreases as the building rises. The last three floors make up the exposed concrete top, where two Swiss Patek Philippe clocks are placed facing east and west, and the tower’s name on the north and south façades. The landscaping by Eduardo Robles Piquer and the hall mural Cromointerferencia (1973) by Carlos Cruz Diez (1923), complement the rational structural, formal and technical efficiency of the building. Its iconic nature that trans-cends its urban area and its shape, unique in the city, make La Previsora a landmark of the surrounding urban landscape.
