Set in the Chacao Cultural Center complex, whose first stage was designed in 2004, this work, the second stage of the complex, took into account what was already built, to use the maximum available space on the small 1200 m2 plot. The striking and playful theater developed by ODA is an orange object whose shape cannot be describe by Euclidean geometry. Inspired in the folds of the Ávila mountains, the irregular surface, aluminum-covered and of fractal geometry (broken or fractured), its structure is developed with metal trusses supported by steel columns, joined by nodes assembled with spatial coordinates. Conceptualized as a flexible and versatile acoustic box to offer different kinds of shows, the work integrates the theater into the small complex, making it a protagonist that offers opportunities to generate new spaces, expanding the program. The theater consists of three parts: the stage, the mobile body of stalls (that stretches and expands to accommodate the balconies) and the covered areas and exhibition hall that act as a large foyer allowing access to the hall on three different levels. Under the stalls are the services and offices, as well as dressing rooms, workshops and rehearsal rooms. The project proposes a third concrete piece in the future, contrasting with the materials of the theater, and still waiting to be built.
