From the initial proposal to reconstruct the entire north side of the Plaza Bolívar, only this body on the northwest corner was completed. Displaying eclecticism and noble proportions, the reason to modernize the Caracas Governor’s Palace was to create a civic governmental indoor public space, ideal for everyday activities, especially for paying rent and taxes, thus acquiring a scenic and contemporary character. Despite its neoclassical expression, this piece’s architecture is an example of a first rationality in transition, with a proliferation of Art Deco. As a theme of the building, the entry hall is emphasized as a lobby for the great staircase, designed to function as the construction’s backbone. This staircase, with rich details on the railings and skylights, is flanked by an elaborate double-height stained glass window that enriches the atmosphere of the inner space with its variations in light.
