By 1967 lands dedicated to crop in the valley of Sartenejas in the suburbs were bought to build a new university. Irrigated by different sources of water streams, mainly Sartenejas ravine, the design of the campus is projected privileging landscaping. Indeed Mayz Vallenilla «conceived the university as a Park of Nations as a tribute to Simón Bolívar». The landscaping by Robles Piquer y Vallone, focused its activities in the area connected to the road Hoyo de la Puerta, in its first stage, developed in the South side immediate to the house of the rector, where an sculpture of Academic Bolívar was placed (Joaquín Roca Rey, 1923-2004). In its second stage, by the North side, organized around de ducks pond, the sculpture Delta Solar (Alejandro Otero, 1921-1990) was located. Both stages are linked by a main way, lined with palm trees that delimit the park, leaving in the back part the buildings and pavilions. The park combines open spaces with meadows, shadow trees, blooming bushes and ornamental plants, grouped forming points of interest inside a path road. The richness of routes and the relationship of the flora and fauna with a variety of areas constitute its main values. Complement the landscaping, the caribe pines forming pine forests around the campus, and a gradient of roads, forested areas, meadows and open spaces.
