This esplanade, consisting of an extensive plane of grass, walkways and pavement organic shaped, is limited by the east side of the Central Complex and the north-south corridor with undulating cover and single support open to the west. In the first beaux-arts style plan of the Ciudad Universitaria, this space was the center of the campus. Later, upon adopting a modern scheme that broke with axiality and centrality, this space ended up with a north-south orientation. Walking through the undulated covered corridor facing west, the formal composition of the central complex can be appreciated, with the notable volume of the Aula Magna, defined by the macro-frame, the volume of the Concert Hall, with the restored Mural by Mateo Manaure (1926), and the reading rooms of the Central Library, facing the garden where the sculpture Maternity by Baltasar Lobo (1910-1993) is displayed floating in the center. The long covered walkway lets you see the façades of the classroom buildings of Humanities, with secondary entrances, and other buildings with unique shapes (the Auditorium of Humanities and the Library of Engineering). A forest with tall foliage and the roof of the northeast access to the Covered Plaza define the north edge of «no man’s land», where it is possible to see the flight of parrots and macaws at sunrise and sunset.
