Located in a mid twentieth century urban development and next to a popular sector or barrio that grew spontane-ously on the margins of the Chacao creek, this work replaces the old school located in a risk area on the banks of the nearby creek. The building, which preserves the scale of the area, manages to link school activities with a community clinic, in order to integrate two communities of different socio-economic levels in a public work. It consists of three volumes, two four-level bodies joined in «L» intended for the school and a third one, a small square prism in the courtyard housing the library on the ground floor and a play area for preschoolers on the upper floor. The complex has a plaza on the corner, which opens on to the street with a system of fences/gates that lets it be closed as a school playground, and opened as a recreation area for the community. The clinic is located on the east of the lot (street and basement levels), accessible from Avenida Santa Ana and attached to the munici-pal vertical gym. The buildings appearance is the result of differential treatment of the façades, using eaves and aluminum blinds that protect from direct sunlight, ventilate and maintain desirable acoustic isolation and visual control.
