Los Chorros was a favorite holiday site for the people of Caracas. The park has its origin in the Tócome river waterfalls, coming from the Ávila mountain, which were discovered by vacationers from the capital in the 30s of last century. It was considered the «Macuto of the mountain» of Caracas. In fact, the architecture that was developed in Los Chorros residential area was very similar to that of Macuto. To get there, one only had to take the train from Quebrada Honda up to Los Dos Caminos. The park, created in 1971, was the result of the initiative of three friends who were fanatical users of these waters and investors in its lands (Eugenio Mendoza, Luis Shlageter and Salvador Álvarez Michaud), and contribut-ed to the extension of the train line up to Los Chorros, which made the waterfalls accessible, and currently part of the park route. The park follows the route of the Tócome creek from a 1000 meter elevation to the main avenue of Los Chorros, where the access is. With the construction of the Cota Mil freeway, the supports for the viaduct were inserted into the park, without affecting its beauty. Today it is one of the most visited parks in the city, with an average of 12,000 monthly visitors, and an example of the possibilities of incorporating the creeks as part of the landscape city’s.
