The cable car network, 7.6 km in length, between Caracas and the coast, was inaugurated on December 29th 1956 by General Marcos Pérez Jiménez. Its route from the Ávila to the coast includes the stations of Ávila, El Irón, Loma de Caballo and El Cojo terminal. El Cojo station, near Macuto, consists of a prismatic shell similar to the Maripé-rez roof (also by Pietri), 80 m long, with a 29.5 m span and 14.9 m high. Supported by the expertise of engineers Juan Otaola and Oscar Benedetti, the design of this thin folded roof is rigid enough to free the inside space from intermediate supports, while delineating an attractive geometric skin, both inward and outward. Its bold shape reaffirms the desire to cover more with less. The rhombus shapes are extended respecting a certain rhythm of the roof that defines the ground support points on the east and left flanks, which leaves the north and south façades for cable car operation and circulation of passenger cable cars. Unlike the Maripérez structure, which was rein-forced inside with metal elements, distorting its original concept, this station is in its original structural condi-tion, submerged in neglect since 1977.
