The impressive atrium covered by a metal roof in the shape of an airplane wing is the symbol of this complex, developed since 2004 and completed in 2009, in a period of urban stagnation in the city. The work was built as a strategy for the urban recovery of Plaza Miranda, a joint project between the Mayor’s Office of Sucre and private developers. The 70,000 m2 complex consists of a small office tower, Plaza Miranda, a community building (services and library) and the mall, built on a triangular plot previously occupied by El Trébol Shopping Center. The mall is built into the ground, thereby generating ten stories (five underground) that are organized through a central space crossed by bridges, ramps and escalators connecting the levels, which produces unusual spatial relations. The square, a platform over the parking lots, bridges the difference in level between Avenida Francisco de Miranda and Avenida Rómulo Gallegos with a staircase. It has leisure areas with vegetation, a large reflecting pool with ornamental fountains and open spaces, dominated by a statue of the hero Francisco de Miranda. Royal palms and lamps give scale to the plaza, which is linked with continuous ground to the mall entrance. This successful urban operation demonstrates the importance of collaboration between public agencies and private developers to generate a better city.
