IGV-1

This building is an example of precise resolution and implantation on a complex lot fronting three streets, which is part of the group of buildings that make up the edge of Plaza Francia. Monaco is a notable example of 50s archi-tecture embrace with conviction, by which German architect Federico Beckhoff. He designed a building with volumes, giving various formal responses to the different urban fronts. A plinth defines the base of a commercial floor and terraces determine the top of the building with planes that act as covers. Between these two areas the body of apartments is built by successive open and closed spaces, articulated by vertical planes and horizontal bands as a systematic response to an organized interior. The building’s shape and construction display architec-ture that has withstood the test of time; nobleness of materials, aesthetics of language, together with rigor in handling multifamily housing, are the great values of Beckhoff architecture. He created his own construction company, Arquitectura Beckhoff, which would later become his work’s laboratory. His vast production of multi-family housing with a particular and recognizable quality seal, is currently an important part of the residential landscape in Caracas and a great lesson in collective residential architecture.
