Plaza Tiuna is part of the civic itineraries that are linked to Paseo Los Ilustres and the vicinity of the Univer-sidad Central de Venezuela campus. On Avenida Roosevelt there is a residential housing development with a triangular road pattern that ends in El Cementerio opposite Gran Colombia School. But in the middle interval of this route is Tiuna’s square, which displays the monument to Tiuna (1951), a powerful sculpture of a native sitting on a truncated pyramid made of artificial stone, designed by Alejandro Colina (the same sculptor of María Lionza and the monument to Caricuao). His mastery of three-dimensional figures evoke painter Pedro Centeno Vallenil-la and marks an artistic era that exalts what is local and native. The plaza retains its attributes of shade and calm, with a fan shape surrounded by residential buildings and some shops, giving it a certain vitality coupled with the proximity of Los Símbolos metro station.
