Plaza del Rectorado consists of three buildings that clearly define its edges and a corridor: the former Museum building, the Communications building and the Rectorate, which houses the offices of the university authorities. The latter, four-story building, covered with grey mosaic, located toward the back, follows the modern rationalist box typology, with simple prismatic volumes and regular window openings. A large awning supported by four columns stands out. This independent element does not touch the building and invites entry into the Covered Plaza, creating shade, which becomes the link between the ground floors and the organic roofs that connect the volumes. This simple prism, with a receding ground floor that accentuates its horizontality, has openwork walls that filter the light on its rear façade. A cylinder housing the stairwell completes the composition. Works of abstract art are incorporated into the architecture right from the awning, on the way to the Covered Plaza, with the murals An element-character in horizontal evolution and Triple element-character by Oswaldo Vigas (1926). Inside, the spaces exhibit a mural painting by Héctor Poleo (1918-1989) and one by Pedro León Castro (1913-2003). The sobriety of this volume that dominates the Rectorado Square combines harmoniously with the colorful surfaces of the former Museum building and the Communications building.
