The Univers Building is a good example of the new type of multifamily buildings with ground floor shops that multiplied in the 50s with the expansion of Caracas to the east. A representative of anonymous stylism, this building opposite Plaza Francia is one of the daring and playful proposals by the architect that some call the «Specialist». Its interest lies in the quantity of unconventional and non orthodox modern spatial elements. Its originality and extravagance are based on the development of a laboratory of decorative pieces, elements and applications, as well as on the spatial show of its inner courtyard, free along the twelve levels of the building, which are unified by the complicated volumetric of three main bodies linked by bridges. Marble, bronze, granite, porticos, cornices, eaves, balconies, skylights and elaborate ornamental railing design, characterize this building with intense spatial quality, further accentuated by an irregular shaped internal fountain of vitreous mosaic that spatially energizes the lateral entrance to the building, incorporating the sound of water to this architectural scenery of modernity.
