The founder of the Zitman Workshops (that would later become the prestigious furniture shop Tecoteca), the Dutch sculptor and designer Cornelis Zitman, came to Venezuela in 1947, and built his house-workshop on the ruins of an ancient cane mill that belonged to the «Hacienda La Trinidad», whose origins go as far as the XVIII century. Qualified by Zitman as the «impossible house», it was conceived as an intimate refuge for the creation of a new adventure in construction. It expresses the close bond that exists between the sculptor and architecture, visible in each of the house´s carefully planned detail. The brick house, with ochre adobe walls and bitter cane and wood ceilings, is organized around the mill´s courtyard. Its interior is inhabited by his distinctive sculptures: Feminine figures captured in daily situations. The house, now a cultural patrimony and museum, captivates the visitors with the attractiveness of its spaces and the prolific artistic works of Zitman.
